Blinken cuts Asia visit short as press gets COVID

United States Secretary of State Antony Blinken had to cut his official tour of Southeast Asia short on Wednesday, as one member of his traveling party tested positive for coronavirus.

A member of the press corps tested positive for the virus, meaning that Blinken will forego the rest of his trip and return to the United States. Reports indicate that this is due to fears that if other members of his party are also positive, they would have to quarantine in Thailand over the holidays.

All other members of the party, including Blinken, have tested negative for the coronavirus. Moreover, the department stated that the positive member wasn’t in contact with the Secretary during the trip.
