Bosphorus traffic stopped after ship ran aground

A cargo ship sailing from Ukraine ran aground in Turkey’s Bosphorus Strait suspending all traffic, the local media reported on Monday quoting the Turkish Tribeca Shipping Agency.

According to reports, the ship in question, MKK-1, got stranded close to Istanbul’s Beykoz district at the northern end of the sea passage due to a rudder failure.

No damage has been registered, and the General Directorate of Coastal Safety dispatched rescue vessels to assist the 142-meter-long grain carrier bound for the Turkish Mediterranean port of Mersin.
