British ambassador to Iran Robert Macaire arrested at protest in Tehran

Britain’s ambassador to Iran Robert Macaire has been detained in Tehran during demonstrations outside a university, the UK Foreign Office has announced.

Robert Macaire was arrested for more than an hour before being discharged, the Iranian Tasnim news agency reported.

Dominic Raab, the foreign secretary, stated: “The arrest of our ambassador in Tehran without grounds or explanation is a flagrant violation of international law”.
