Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi affirmed on Tuesday that Italy wants Ukraine in the European Union, stressing that his country will accompany Kiev in that process.
“We want a road map to ultimately get Ukraine closer to Europe,” said Draghi addressing the Italian Parliament after Zelensky’s speech. “I want to say to President Zelensky Italy is close to Ukraine in this process. Italy wants Ukraine in the European Union,” he added.
He further stated that sanctions “have hit Russia really hard,” including the assets of those “who are close” to Russian President Vladimir Putin. In this regard, Italy will approve further measures on energy to overcome the current situation of dependence on Russia.
