The European Union strongly condemned on Thursday Russia’s decision to launch a military operation in Ukraine.
“We condemn in the strongest possible terms Russia’s unprecedented military aggression against Ukraine. By its unprovoked and unjustified military actions, Russia is grossly violating international law and undermining European and global security and stability,” European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and European Council President Charles Michel said in a statement.
The EU urged Moscow to “immediately cease the hostilities, withdraw its military from Ukraine and fully respect Ukraine’s territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence” and threatened to impose “massive and severe” sanctions on Russia in response to its latest actions.
