The European Union reached an agreement on a regulation that will allow for emergency gas cuts during this winter season on Tuesday, as the region faces possible disruptions of gas supply from Russia. From August to March of next year, all member countries agreed to reduce their gas consumption by 15%.
“Adopting the gas reduction proposal in record time has undoubtedly strengthened our common energy security. Saving gas now will improve preparedness. The winter will be much cheaper and easier for EU citizens and industry,” said Czech Minister of Industry and Trade Jozef Sikela.
