The five United States Marines who were previously reported missing have been discovered dead after their helicopter went down near California, the Commanding General of the 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing Major General Michael J. Borgschulte confirmed in a statement shared by CBS News on Thursday.
The aircraft is said to have crashed in the mountainous area of San Diego during a training exercise while flying from Creech Air Force Base in Clark County, Nevada, to Marine Corps Air Station Miramar in California.
