Former Pope Benedict ‘very sick,’ Vatican says

Pope Francis announced on Wednesday that his predecessor Pope Benedict XVI (pictured), the first pope to resign in almost 600 years, is “very sick” after a recent deterioration of his health.

The 95-year-old former pontiff resigned from the papacy in 2013, citing “advanced age.”

Addressing the public, Pope Francis said that there has been a decline in Benedict’s health due to his age but added that the situation is under control and that he’s being monitored by doctors.
