France-Emmanuel Macron calls colonialism in Africa a ‘grave mistake’

Colonialism was a “grave mistake” and a “serious fault” created by the French Republic, asserted French President Emmanuel Macron during a press conference with the president of the Ivory Coast, Alassane Ouattara.

“Too frequently, France is regarded as taking a supremacy stand and to dress in the shreds of colonialism, which has been a critical error, a serious fault of the Republic”, Macron stated.

“The African continent is a young continent,” he said. “Three-fourths of your country never knew colonialism,” he proceeded, speaking to the Ivoirian audience, and called on African youth to “build a new partnership of friendship with France”.

He added that he wished “a new page” of the tale could be rewritten.
