Germany to renew cooperation with UNRWA

Germany revealed on Wednesday its decision to renew cooperation with the United Nations (UN) Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) in light of the investigation led by former French foreign minister Catherine Colonna into whether some UNRWA employees were involved in Hamas’ October 7 attack on Israel.

Colonna’s report showed that the Israeli party “has yet to provide supporting evidence” of its accusations that employees of UNRWA were members of terrorist organizations and added that UNRWA supplied Israel with lists of its employees regularly yet “the Israeli Government has not informed UNRWA of any concerns relating to any UNRWA staff based on these staff lists since 2011.”

“In support of these reforms, the German government will soon continue its cooperation with UNRWA in Gaza, as Australia, Canada, Sweden and Japan, among others, have already done. Germany will coordinate closely with its closest international allies to disburse further funds,” the German government added.
