Guterres ‘gravely concerned’ about Zaporizhzhia plant

Secretary-General Antonio Guterres stated on Thursday that he is “gravely concerned” about the situation regarding the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant.

In a statement, Guterres noted that he has been calling all the parts “to exercise common sense and reason and not to undertake any actions” that might cause further irreparable damage or that can “endanger the physical integrity, safety or security of the nuclear plant.”

“I am calling on the military forces of the Russian Federation and Ukraine to immediately cease all military activities in the immediate vicinity of the plant and not to target its facilities or surroundings,” added Guterres, while stressing that any situation out of control there, could lead to “catastrophic consequences.”
