United Nations (UN) Secretary-General Antonio Guterres will host a meeting of big donors for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) after several countries decided to cut funding to the organization amid allegations of its staff being involved in Hamas attacks on October 7, his spokesperson Stephane Dujarric said in a conference on Monday.
Dujarric said the meeting will be tomorrow Tuesday during the afternoon hours in New York. Although he did not disclose the main objective of the encounter, he stressed that the community needs to “understand the critical work that UNRWA does right now, keeping people alive in the deliveries they have made” not just in the Gaza Strip but also in West Bank, Lebanon, Syria, and Jordan.
He mentioned Guterres met earlier with leaders from Jordan and Egypt on the same matter.
