The International Criminal Court (ICC) started on Thursday an investigation into the situation in Ukraine after the court’s Prosecutor Karim Khan announced the launch of the probe late on Wednesday. He told the BBC the court will work “as rapidly as possible,” with a team of investigators already on its way to Ukraine.
Khan said his office received referrals from 39 countries, which allowed him to accelerate the process of opening an investigation. He added his office has already found “a reasonable basis to believe crimes within the jurisdiction of the court had been committed.”
