A 6.3-magnitude earthquake was recorded in the ocean waters along the shoreline of Chichijima, Japan, according to data provided by the Japan Meteorological Office.
The termor struck at a depth of about 70 kilometers and its epicenter was some 1.2 kilometers south of the Japanese capital of Tokyo, home to around 13.96 million people according to the 2021 Census information.
