Kuwaiti authorities have revoked the citizenship of preacher Nabil Al-Awadi and journalist Ibrahim Mohamed Rizq Abu Aida, widely known as Bou Aida.
According to Kuwait Network on X (formerly Twitter), Bou Aida’s nationality, originally granted for “exceptional services”,—has now been withdrawn. The Ministry of Interior also confirmed the revocation of Al-Awadi’s citizenship, though no specific reasons were disclosed.
In response, Al-Awadi, who comes from a stateless (Bedoon) background in Kuwait, posted a Quranic verse on X: “After hardship comes ease…”
Al-Awadi first received Kuwaiti nationality in 1998, which was revoked in 2014 due to allegations of “regime destabilization.” It was reinstated in 2018 by a Cabinet decision.
This latest move follows a series of similar revocations targeting public figures, including former journalist Mubarak Al-Omair and actor Mohamed Al-Ajimi.
