Moderna Inc. declared on Monday that its COVID-19 vaccine gives protection against new strains of the virus that were revealed in the United Kingdom and South Africa.
In a study led jointly with the United States National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), Moderna affirmed that no variation in the effectiveness of the jab was seen concerning the UK variant, while there was a “six-fold reduction in neutralizing titers” against the strain from the African country. The company accentuated that the “neutralizing titers” recorded are still “above levels … expected to be protective.”
Moderna revealed that it will continue working on “vaccine boosters” aimed at providing a more efficient immune response to the existing COVID strains, or the ones that might emerge in the future.
