Tunisia-1818 Fund: More than 177 MD spent by the Ministry of Health

As of December 30, 2020, the 1818 Coronavirus Prevention Fund, which was founded in March 2020, had amassed 204.134 million dinars (MD). Made available to the Ministry of Health, the money raised is used under the supervision of a committee which comprises representatives of the presidency of the government, the ministries of finance, trade and social affairs, the UGTT, of the UTICA and the Central Pharmacy.

The Ministry of Health has outlined to spend, so far, 177.038 MD of which 111 MD have already been awarded and approximately 65 MD remain in progress. The sum remaining available in the Fund stands at 27.96 MD, according to a document published by the Ministry of Health on its website.

This document reveals that a large part of the expenditure was earmarked to medical equipment, medical transport and the acquisition of artificial respirators and resuscitation beds, with a total cost of 68.203 MD against 40 MD for the acquisition of medical supplies such as analysis and prevention equipment.

In addition, 30 MD have been designated for the housing expenses of people placed in compulsory confinement, and more than 17 MD for the recruitment of paramedical agents and medical trainees under service contracts. One million dinars have been mobilized for scientific research.
