The Palestinian government has summoned its ambassador to the United Arab Emirates after the Arab nation normalized relations with Isreal.
Palestinian Foreign Minister Riyad al-Maliki announced Thursday that he had “immediately summoned” the Palestinian ambassador to the UAE in reply to a trilateral statement in which the United States, the UAE and Israel announced that the latter two were normalizing relations.
On his part, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas called an “urgent meeting” of his top officials Thursday after Israel and the United Arab Emirates agreed to normalize ties, in exchange for Israel suspending West Bank annexation plans.
Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas denounced Israel’s accord with the United Arab Emirates in a statement issued by his spokesman.
Abu Rudeineh, reading from a statement outside Abbas’s headquarters in Ramallah in the occupied West Bank, said the deal was a “betrayal of Jerusalem, Al Aqsa and the Palestinian cause.”
