Pentagon inspector to probe Austin’s hospitalization

United States Department of Defense Inspector General Robert Stoch opened an investigation that will review all “processes” and “responsibilities” related to Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin’s hospitalization, the memo made public on Thursday revealed.

The probe will assess whether the Department of Defense’s policies were “sufficient to ensure timely and appropriate notifications” and “the effective transition of authorities” as required due to the “unavailability” of senior leadership. The inspector general’s review will be carried out at the Office of the Secretary of Defense, separate from the ongoing internal Pentagon investigation.
