Psaki: US-Taliban ties will depend on how group acts

White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki declared that the United States will watch the Taliban “closely” in order to determine how to act against the new Afghanistan government.

Washington will place special focus on whether the group allows American citizens and Afghans who seek to depart leave the Middle Eastern country, as well as their respect of human rights, the official asserted.

“There’s a great deal of economic leverage,” including sanctions placed on the Taliban, that the US and the global community will be able to use to pressure the group if needed, Psaki said.
