Russia sees first two Omicron cases

Russian authorities reported on Monday that two passengers arriving from South Africa tested positive for the Omicron coronavirus strain, registering the variant for the first time in the country.

According to World Health Organization (WHO) data, 38 countries reported at least one Omicron infection as of December 3.

The agency’s representative in Russia said on Saturday that lockdowns “should only be used as last resort” to fight the spread of the disease.
