ACHIEVEMENTS OF THE DEFENCE FORCES OF UKRAINE
• The Ukrainian counteroffensive continues, its pace is quite realistic. There are real advances in the south: several villages were liberated within last week.
• Attempts of Russian attacks in the east remain unsuccessful. Ukrainian soldiers deter the enemy and destroy its offensive potential.
ELIMINATION OF PRIGOZHIN
• On August 23, Prigozhin, the leader of the Wagner PMC mercenaries, was killed on board his own aircraft in the Tver Oblast of Russia.
• From a historical and moral perspective, the elimination of Prigozhin is a natural and appropriate end of this war criminal.
• Obviously, it was the Putin regime that ordered the liquidation of Prigozhin. It did not forgive the mercenary his outright criticism of the actions of the country’s leadership and the coup on June 23.
• The gangster-like manner of Prigozhin’s murder once again testifies to the depth of the degradation of Russian statehood.
• Prigozhin’s fate is an additional reminder that agreements with the Putin’s regime and guarantees from it are void.
BRICS SUMMIT
• On August 22, South Africa hosted the BRICS Summit — an international association with the participation of Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa. BRICS remains primarily a consultative format.
• Serious unification and coordination of efforts are hampered by significant internal contradictions between the participants.
• Russia seeks to turn the BRICS into an anti-Western coalition, but this is at odds with the interests of the other members of the union. Moscow is much inferior to other BRICS members in economic potential and cannot claim a leadership role.
• BRICS countries are closely tied to the West economically, while Russia is in isolation. Economic cooperation with Russia is toxic for the world’s leading economies.
• Putin did not attend the BRICS Summit because the South African authorities have an obligation to the International Criminal Court to arrest him on their territory.
