Russian war against Ukraine: Present situation (Ukrainian Embassy in Tunisia)

SITUATION AT THE FRONT

  • The Russian command hoped to quickly encircle city Avdiivka (Donetsk region), but miscalculated the outcome. The offensive near Avdiivka has failed. Russia’s losses in manpower and military equipment are huge.
  • Putin had high hopes for success near Avdiivka because he wanted to use it to strengthen his positions in negotiations with China and North Korea.
  • Putin also needs a victory near Avdiivka as part of his election campaign because the elections are to be held in the spring of 2024.
  • Russia was unable to achieve results in the offensives near Kupiansk, Lyman, and Avdiivka, neither can it stop the Ukrainian counteroffensive in the Azov Sea region and near Bakhmut.

LAVROV’S TOUR OF DICTATORSHIPS

  • Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov visited North Korea and Iran during the week.
  • Putin’s regime cooperates with similar regimes that systematically violate the rights of their citizens, arm themselves and threaten the world with aggressive wars.
  • Russia receives resources from North Korea and Iran to continue the aggressive war against Ukraine. For Iranian drones and North Korean shells, Russia is ready to reciprocate with technologies that will make the world even more dangerous.
  • Putin wants war, not peace. Russia is really trying to draw Ukraine’s allies into a new Middle East conflict.

ACHIEVEMENTS OF THE UNMANNED FLEET OF UKRAINE

  • A year ago, the first large-scale attack on the Russian fleet by Ukrainian naval drones took place in the temporarily occupied Sevastopol.
  • With the help of sea drones and other means of destruction, Ukraine gained a number of brilliant victories and drove the enemy fleet into remote bases. In the area of reach of Ukrainian naval drones, there are military targets both in the temporarily occupied Crimea and on the Caucasian coast of Russia.
  • The production of naval drones testifies to the significant potential of Ukraine in the field of military technology. In August 2023, Ukraine created the world’s first unmanned fleet unit: the 385th Separate Brigade of Maritime Unmanned Special Purpose Systems.
