In Algeria, the economic future could well take shape in the form of promising mining, centred on lithium, following optimistic investigation results in the regions of Tamanrasset and In Guezzam. The Ministry of Energy and Mines, following a fruitful partnership with Algerian and Chinese specialists, is now preparing to launch a vast project to explore and transform this light metal. The potential of this initiative is considerable, calculated at several billion dollars in potential revenue, which could greatly stimulate the Algerian economy. In addition to lithium, the research also emphasised the presence of rare minerals such as tungsten, niobium and tantalum, thereby advancing the scope and value of the proposed mining project. Algeria, traditionally dependent on its hydrocarbon resources, is turning to strategic mineral resources to diversify its economy and strengthen its resilience in the face of fluctuations in the oil market. This new emphasis on lithium, a key component of batteries for electric vehicles and other green technologies, positions the country as a potential player in the global renewable energy market.
