South Sandwich Islands hit by 7.1 earthquake

The South Sandwich Islands region has been hit by an earthquake that had a magnitude of 7.1, according to a report published by the United States Geological Survey (USGS).

The USGS further noted that the quake happened at a depth of 14 kilometers, but no tsunami warnings have been issued following the quake.

The British overseas territory is mostly uninhabited, except for the military personnel and staffers at the research facilities.
