The dean of Veterinarians : Condensed milk imported from Malaysia contains carcinogenic substances!

On Thursday, January 25, 2024, the Dean of Veterinarians, Ahmed Rajab, voiced grave concerns regarding condensed milk imported from Malaysia. In his talk on Mosaïque FM, Rajab cautioned that this product is adulterated and contains carcinogenic substances, remarking on its widespread availability in several regions and many Tunisian markets.

Rajab stressed that the State bears responsibility for protecting citizens, citing Law No. 24, which pertains to veterinary health control over imports and exports. He referenced Chapter 6 of the same law, which mandates that control should be implemented in three stages: the control of documents, the identity, and the components of the product.

Rajab shared that he finished the monitoring process and discovered the composition of this milk. According to his findings, condensed milk contains sugar, water, palm oil, and “dry matter of the milk,” a term not recognized in the Codex Alimentarius. He concluded that these components do not correspond to what is typically discovered in condensed milk, meaning the product’s identity does not match the label.

Furthermore, Rajab highlighted that a sticker with false information was affixed to the milk container. This act of labelling was an attempt to “justify” the distribution and introduction of the product into Tunisia, which he classified as an “infraction ” according to the law.
