On March 6 and 7, the Navy units, with the participation of units of the Maritime Guard, saved 70 irregular migrants (24 of various sub-Saharan nationalities and 46 Tunisians), including women and children. The Ministry of National Defense revealed, in a press release published on Monday, March 7, 2022, that the migrants, aged 3 to 38, were on board two ships about to sink north of Kerkennah and north of Sfax.
They indicated that they had left from the coast of Sidi Mansour (governorate of Sfax) on the night of March 6 to 7. The ministry added that all migrants were taken to the fishing port of Sfax, and handed over to the National Guard there to finish the legal procedures for them.
