Former health minister Abdellatif Mekki said Tunisia missed the chance to prepare well for the second and third waves of the coronavirus due to political tensions.
According to him, the failure to uphold the health protocol and preventive measures is because Tunisians are confused by the general environment and the political atmosphere.
He, therefore, called for the founding of a field network made up of civil society, the red crescent, scouts, student unions, retirees, security agents and delegates to raise awareness of the significance of compliance with barrier rules.
“The solution lies in field hospitals, scaling up vaccination operations and growing an effective communication plan,” he told a private radio.
Commenting on the proposal of the scientific committee to battle Coronavirus, Mekki revealed that the country cannot withstand a new general lockdown for several reasons including the economic situation of the country. But, according to him, it helps to control the spread of the virus.
