Tunisia-Abdellatif Mekki: Saïed’s supporters let him go, only the army remains

The nation has entered a political sequence which will become tenser as the referendum of July 25, 2022, nears, Abdellatif Mekki said.  According to himself, the President of the Republic, Kaïs Saïed, is starting to take stock of the growing unpopularity of the “coup” perpetrated on July 25, 2021, adding that some of the political forces that backed the head of state last summer are beginning to turn their backs. He likewise pointed to the lack of appetite of national organizations for the national dialogue that Kaïs Saïed concocted from start to finish.

Yet the president of the Bar Association, Me Brahim Bouderbala, stated just yesterday that the four flagship organizations will take the presidential train… “This is the protest for any person endowed with the reason that what occurred is neither a constitutional rectification nor a political refocusing but a putsch that no one will let pass”, declared Mekki.

“The putsch no longer has a moral and legal basis,” added Mekki, insisting that the head of state flourished thanks to his outings in the fight against corruption, among other things, when in the end it was just slogans… “The political parties that had backed him took a step back after the decrees he issued. Only the security and military forces remain, torn between the obligation to protect the power in place and respect for the Constitution”…
