Tunisia-Abir Moussi speaks out on stopping bonuses for MPs

PDL leader Abi Moussi addressed the ending of all bonuses and benefits given to the house speaker and members of the House of People’s Representatives by the Presidency of the Republic. She maintained that with the exception of a few relatively insignificant perks, MPs other than the house speaker and his two vice-chairmen did not get any benefits in cash or in any kind. In addition, Presidential Decree No. 2021-117 of September 22, 2021, relating to exceptional measures shows that the parliament is not yet dissolved and that the deputies, as well as the president of the parliament, still profit from these qualities. Therefore, and by virtue of this decree, the President of the Republic still recognizes Rached Ghannouchi as House speaker, she explained.

Ghannouchi doesn’t necessitate the bonuses and perks that his parliament position affords him, the money he receives from suspicious associations is more than enough for him.

On the other hand, public officials who have stopped getting their wages because of their status as deputies no longer have any income, since on the one hand they no longer profit from the bonuses that should be granted to them by the parliament and that they cannot either return to their old posts because legally they still possess their status as deputies. Furthermore, parliamentary assistants who are not paid by the NDI have been “sanctioned” by these new measures, unlike their colleagues paid by the American institution.
