Tunisia – Acceleration of pace of “voluntary returns” of sub-Saharan migrants to their countries

The head of the Red Crescent of Sfax, in charge of the clandestine migration file, Anas Hakim, reported that from the start of next week, the pace of “voluntary returns” of illegal sub-Saharan migrants, who are in El Amra and Jebeniana, will be speed up to reach the average of 400 returns per week.

He clarified in a statement today Saturday to TAP that this decision came at the initiative of the IOM in coordination with the Tunisian Red Crescent in Sfax, remarking that since October 2023, around 2,500 irregular migrants from sub-Saharan African countries who were in Sfax voiced their availability for a voluntary return to their countries.
