Tunisia-Agreement to ban packaging cement in plastic issued in JORT

The decision related to the cancellation of the decision of the Minister of Industry that dates to August 5, 2020, on the authorization of the packaging of cement in plastic bags has been published in in the Official Gazette of the Tunisian Republic (JORT)dated August 5, 2020.

The Minister of Industry, Energy and Mines, Saloua Sghaier, declared, Wednesday, October 14, 2020, that a draft decree stipulating the abandonment of the packaging of cement in plastic bags has been filed with the presidency of the government, for final approval and publication in the (JORT).

The decree, published last August 14 in the  (JORT), had prompted a general outcry on the Web and infuriated environmental activists and some MPs who went so far as to register a complaint with the Administrative Court to reverse this decision which they labelled as “disastrous” for the environment.

The decision was also estimated to be in breach of the government decree banning conventional single-use plastic bags, adopted in January 2020.
