Tunisia-[Audio] Salsabil Klibi: Makhlouf and Smara are not covered by parliamentary immunity

Speaking to Tunisie Numérique, Professor of Public Law Salsabil Klibi stressed that parliamentary immunity does not apply to the events that happened yesterday in Parliament, in reference to the violence committed by MPs Seif Eddine Makhlouf and Sahbi Smara against PDL leader Abir Moussi.

According to the expert, this is a criminal act within the meaning of Organic Law n ° 2017-58 of August 11, 2017, reporting to the elimination of violence against women, without specifying the text’s general of the Penal Code. The prosecution could operate on its own or following permission from the justice ministry because the deputies perpetrating the violence were recorded live in the act, she said.

The prosecution should have acted rapidly, says Salsabil Klibi, who added that apart from not being covered by parliamentary immunity, the two MPs face prison.
