Speaking to Tunisie Numérique, World Health Organization (WHO) adviser Souhaiel Alouini affirmed that the situation was distressing in various regions of the country, including Siliana, Kairouan, Béja and Zaghouan. The number of infections has similarly grown in children because of the Delta variant (the Indian variant) which is not actually more dangerous than the other mutations of the virus but which is recognised for its high speed of spread, he said.
He related that dispensaries and basic health facilities should at least be provided with oxygen to counter what occurred in Kairouan from happening in other areas. In fact, according to the doctor, the number of patients in hospitals must be subdued as much as possible, as they have already surpassed their maximum reception capacity. Souhaiel Alouini has likewise estimated that home oxygen therapy could ease the stress on public health institutions.
Underscoring the gravity of the situation, the doctor called to respect the health protocol and to avoid all types of gatherings. He added that there is no point in making resolutions if they are not subsequently executed by force if necessary.
