The Ministry of Health recently removed the authorization of three companies specializing in the treatment of medical waste, announced on Monday the Minister of Health, Faouzi Mahdi.
In his reply to an inquiry addressed to him by Democratic Bloc deputy Noumen El Euch, concerning the medical waste management system, Mahdi maintained that a meeting s ” was recently held at the request of the ministry and brought together union structures in clinics, private practices, dialysis centres and the Order of Physicians, to encourage the signing of contracts with companies active in the treatment of waste medical.
He emphasised that the absence of companies specializing in the treatment of medical waste in certain regions of the country, represents, in turn, an additional problem for the disposal of this waste has, over time, adverse outcomes on the environment.
The Ministry of Health is earmarking a line of funding of 7.5 million dinars for the treatment of medical waste, Mahdi added, remarking that the limited quantities of waste in frontline facilities, with reference to dispensaries and private clinics, pose a problem in the treatment of part of this waste.
