Tunisia-Belaïd calls Saied to dissolve parliament

Speaking to Mosaique FM, The professor of constitutional law, Sadok Belaïd indicated that the resolution to dissolve the parliament rests with the President of the Republic. According to Belaïd, the head of state can execute this decision now, particularly after the acts of violence in parliament.
Belaïd revealed that the head of state can still consult anyone he considers necessary but it is up to him to make the ultimate decision. In this context, he stressed the necessity to go beyond the requirement of informing the Constitutional Court since it does not exist. According to the same source, if the head of state perceives that we have reached the height of the crisis, he can instantly dissolve parliament.
Expressing his opinion, Belaïd considered that it is necessary to dissolve the parliament as this decision reverses the interest of the state, therefore calling on Kais Saïed to take this decision.

He added that if the President of the Republic were to confirm that this step is mandatory, the political and social composition in the country will not be able to enable the people to assume their electoral responsibilities in all political conscience, he will only re-elect the same system.
The crisis is in reality inherent in the people and in the body politic in general and it further exists in a constitutional institution of the State, the assembly of representatives of the people.
“The problem lies with the people and the Assembly of People’s Representatives”, he said, emphasising the need to change the political regime in the country.
