Tunisia-” Calm atmosphere ” in polling stations despite registered violations, states European Parliament Vice-President Fabio Massimo Castaldo

Voting for the early legislative election was carried out in an atmosphere characterized by peace and compliance despite several violations, says EU-EOM vice President Fabio Massimo Castaldo.

“Despite several apparent violations observed near polling stations and on social media, the legislative elections took place in a calm atmosphere,” Massimo Castaldo said a press briefing in Tunis, he further hailed the successful efforts of the Independent High Authority for Election (ISIE).

He properly indicated that the electoral authority was capable to triumphantly conduct the 2019 legislative elections in terms of planning and excellent administrative management. Moreover, he commanded the active participation of Tunisian women and their key role in the considerable success of the election.

However, the European official lamented the decline in the overall voting turnout as opposed to the presidential election of September 15.

The EU-EOM will publish its report after the October 13 presidential election, added Castaldo
