The regional health directorate of Mahdia declared the first death of a 33 days baby from the coronavirus since the commencement of the pandemic. The latter died in a private clinic to which he was transported two weeks after his infection.
Dr Mohamed Douagi stated that the coronavirus was not the principal cause of death, adding that the virus normally only kills infants and children if they are previously carriers of lung disease, heart abnormalities or they suffer from chronic illnesses.
He also stated that more than 600 infections have been documented in children under 2 years old and more than 6,000 contaminations have been recorded in children under 15 years old, in addition to 8 deaths.
