Tunisia-Coronavirus: China’s embassy in Tunis requests not to misrepresent facts

The Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Tunis called in a statement on Monday, “not to exaggerate facts” related to the spread of coronavirus in some countries of the world.

According to the embassy, coronavirus is less deadly than other viruses such as H7N9, MERS, H5N1 and SARS.

“Indeed, until midnight on February 2, some 17,238 confirmed cases were discovered in China, with a mortality rate of about 2.1%,” the same source said, adding that the mortality rate of SARS in China in 2003 reached 7%.

To this end, the Chinese embassy reaffirmed that the Chinese government is “fully capable and confident of defeating the epidemic at an early date, and will continue to strengthen cooperation with the international community, especially the World Health Organisation (WHO).”

The embassy added: “China thanks all friendly countries, including Tunisia, and international organisations for their solidity and valuable support.”
