Tunisia- Coronavirus: scientific committee warns of new wave

The scientific committee to fight the coronavirus warned of another COVID-19 wave, Director of the National Pharmacovigilance Centre and committee member Dr. Riadh Daghfous told TAP on Wednesday.

He also urged citizens to get vaccinated to increase their immunity and prevent the transmission of infections in anticipation of a possible increase in infections in January.

A vaccination campaign against dominant Omicron subvariants BA.4 and BA.5 will launch this week, the official said. People with chronic conditions and immunodeficiencies, seniors and people who received the last dose more than 6 months ago need to get vaccinated, Daghfous added.

It is the right time now to have a vaccine booster, the official said. Infections are on an upward trend but are not life-threatening. The number of deaths remains steady, while hospital admissions are rising.
