Tunisia-Defence Minister:Military units exercised utmost restraint during El Kamour demonstrations

National Defence Minister Imed Hazgui stated that military units “have exerted maximum restraint concerning the demonstration movements in El Kamour.”
“The military institution does not face protest movements. Its function is to guard oil facilities and pumping stations. It will not allow actions of looting by anyone,” he told the TAP agency..
Chairing the graduation ceremony of Commandant Faouzi Zayati promotion at the Military Academy of Fondouk Jedid, the minister Hazgui pointed out that the military units “have worked with a particular restraint against this exceptional situation to avoid any dangerous drift or human loses.”
As for the situation on the Tunisian borders and fears over the infiltrations of persons infected with COVID-19, Hazgui considered that “concerns mainly regard the serious and exceptional situation of war in Libya and the massive inflow of weapons and mercenaries.”
Given this situation, Tunisia has increased alertness by taking precaution measures through the deployment of national army units along the borders, he indicated.
