Tunisia-Electoral law-Mosen Nabti: We were the only political party to defend the withdrawal of confidence in MPs

Popular current spokesman   Mohsen Nabti told Tunisie Numérique that the electoral law issued yesterday in Jort reacted largely to the party’s aspirations, especially with regard to the two-round uninominal election.

Nabti believed that the voting system currently offered is the most suitable for the country indicating that public opinion rejects the prior parliamentary experience and claims a radical change to overcome the current situation.

Ob the new conditions inflicted on the participants in the race to Bardo, he underscored the significance of the concept of sponsorship which will end the random applications.

”400 legalized sponsorships of voters living in the district concerned appears to be an unrealizable objective, especially in the interior regions. We must find a mechanism capable of securing the process of sponsorship and facilitating administrative procedures at the same time, “added the political leader.

We were practically the only political party to defend the withdrawal of confidence in the deputies in the new electoral law, adds Nabti.

In the same sense, he clarified that the candidate can file an appeal to contest this decision, defend himself or persuade his voters to return to their decision. According to him, it is a very important mechanism.

Nabti also cautioned against the impact of the cancellation of public financing of the legislative elections underlining that this could close the door to candidates belonging to the “popular categories” and permit their opponents to present themselves in the elections.

He again proposed to ISIE to put public spaces, including the houses of culture and youth, available to candidates.
