Ennahdha issued, Thursday, July 28, 2022, a press release stating the failure of the constitutional referendum initiated by the President of the Republic Kaïs Saïed.
The party emphasised that the boycott of this electoral operation by 75% of the voters means the fall of the constitution of Kaïs Saïed. “Constitutions only pass with the participation of at least 50% of the voters,” it was noted.
It added that, as a result, it considered the 2014 constitution still in force despite the “coup”.
Ennahdha asserted that, through his referendum, Kaïs Saïed was pursuing “a little legitimacy” because he knew he had lost popularity, arguing that the President of the Republic’s stubbornness would only aggravate the political crisis and push the country towards more division.
The party confirmed that it would continue to fight against the “coup” by coordinating efforts with all those who are ready to protect the republic and the achievements of the revolution.
