Denouncing the marginalization of the sector and demanding a series of demands, several fishermen observed a sit-in, yesterday Wednesday, September 30, 2020, in the ports of Kélibia and Béni Khiar in the governorate of Nabeul.
In a statement to the TAP, the president of the Regional Union of Agriculture and Fisheries in Nabeul Imed El Bey said that this protest movement, organized in coordination with the UTAP executive office, intervenes to deplore the deterioration of the infrastructure of the region’s fishing ports while funds (22 MD) dedicated to redevelopment and rehabilitation works have been approved since 2012.
Speaking to the same source, he regretted the non-application of previous agreements signed with the government, in addition to the absence of adequate and viable social protection and the non-development of the professional security system, all factors which had a negative impact on fishing activity.
For his part, the president of the local Union of Agriculture and Fisheries of Kelibia, Achref Hammami underlined that the demands of the fishermen relate in particular to the revision of the taxes applied by the agency of the ports and the installations of fishing (APIP), the amendment of laws related to maritime fishing zones and the reorganization of the subsidized fuel distribution operation, TAP further reports.
