As part of his participation in the high-level meeting of the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, , Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nabil Ammarmet yesterday, Monday, September 18, 2023, Amy Pope, Director General of the International Organization for Migration.
This meeting was an opportunity to discuss the issue of irregular migration and the challenges posed by the resurgence of this phenomenon. In this regard, the minister recollected the Tunisian position consisting of adopting a global approach to tackle the root causes of this phenomenon, revealing that economic recovery and the implementation of sustainable development levers in our country will be the most effective way to alleviate this scourge.
The minister recalled the efforts made by Tunisia to fight this phenomenon in accordance with Tunisian laws and related international treaties.
For her part, the UN official commended our country’s efforts in its fight against irregular migration and highlighted the need to create “regular migration corridors” according to the necessities of countries of origin and destination, as as one of the practical solutions to ease, even partially, this phenomenon.
