Tunisia – Food poisoning in Zarzis and Ben Guerdane: seizure of 1000 liters of “Lben”

Following what occurred over the last two days in the delegations of Ben Guerdane and Zarzis, and the registering of cases of poisoning among a certain number of citizens after they consumed milk-derived products, the head of the Regional Council The Medenine Food Safety Authority clarified that infected people consumed “Lben” (fermented milk) in bulk, which exposed them to food poisoning because it was not sterile, and unsanitary.

He added that the two incidents were separate, considering that the sellers did not buy the product from the same supplier, specifying that when the incident occurred, the required measures were taken, since it was decided to close a store selling dairy products in Zarzis and seize 200 litres. Two stores were also checked in Ben Guerdane and around 800 litres were seized. Pending the closure decision from the judge of the first instance court.
