Tunisia-French FM Jean-Yves Le Drian expected on October 21 and 22 in Tunis

French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian is anticipated to carry an official visit on October 21 and 22 in Tunis. This visit was the centre of a meeting Wednesday between Minister of Foreign Affairs for Migration and Tunisians Abroad, Othman Jerandi and new French Ambassador in Tunis, André Parant. The latter provided Mr Jerandi with a copy of his credentials.

The two sides reviewed the subsequent deadlines, including the third meeting of the Higher Council of Tunisian-French Cooperation which will take place in early March.

The two officials agreed to proceed coordination on regional and international issues of common interest, particularly since Tunisia will assume the presidency of the United Nations Security Council in January 2021.

For his part, the French Ambassador to Tunisia revealed France’s backing for international efforts to reach a political settlement in Libya calling, in particular, the initiatives put forward by President Kaîs Saied in this direction.

“France welcomes the holding, in early November, of the first meeting of the inter-Libyan political dialogue in Tunisia, under the auspices of the United Nations,” he said.

Besides, the French diplomat reaffirmed his country’s willingness to contribute to the success of the Francophonie Summit to be held in November 2021 in Djerba.
