Remarking on the closure of Nessma TV, the secretary-general of the Democratic Current Ghazi Chaouachi stated that this decision of the HAICA should have been implemented for years. Nevertheless, some powerful parties intervened to stop the channel from shutting down, he said.
“The moment of the implementation of this decision, as well as the manner which was applied, will have bad consequences on the image of Tunisia abroad,” he told Tunisie Numérique, referring to the breach of the principle of freedom of expression.
Stating that Nessma’s situation must be fixed, Chaouachi additionally referred to the situation of reporters and employees operating in the channel. According to him, efforts should be made to find a solution to this problem.
