Tunisia-Head of the state meets with Egyptian Prime Minister in Cairo

The next session of the Tunisian-Egyptian High Joint Commission will meet in Tunis, Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly told TAP after a meeting Saturday with President Kais Saied who received him at his residence in the Al-Qobba Palace, Cairo.

The meeting also discussed the possibility of launching a shipping line between Tunisia and Egypt. This issue will be studied by a sectoral committee of the Tunisian and Egyptian ministries concerned, he added.

The Egyptian Prime Minister also welcomed Tunisia’s stance on fair distribution of Nile water and “the Renaissance Dam”, built by Ethiopia on the Blue Nile.

He also expressed his country’s commitment to consolidate the bonds of cooperation between Tunisia and Egypt.

Mr. Madbouly also said he discussed with President Saied the experience of economic reform in Egypt, particularly the programme launched in partnership with the International Monetary Fund and the importance of a programme of exchange of skills with Tunisia in this field.

The Egyptian Prime Minister also said the Palestinian cause and the Libyan issue were also reviewed at the meeting. Emphasis was placed on the need to continue to support the Libyans and ensure stability in this country, until the next elections, scheduled before the end of the current year.

The President of the Republic stressed at the meeting the need to hold, as soon as possible, the High Joint Commission and the Tunisian-Egyptian Political Dialogue Committee meetings to ensure a comprehensive assessment of cooperation and partnership mechanisms and develop new approaches to boost bilateral relations.

Tunisia and Egypt have promising opportunities for partnership in many areas, he pointed out.
