The Executive Office of the General Health Federation, following its emergency meeting today, has reiterated its position concerning what it considers important sectoral issues related to the rejection of health personnel’s right to free healthcare. This right encompasses staff, retirees, their families, and active beneficiaries within the health sector.
The federation, which is part of the UGTT, stressed that this right has been a longstanding benefit, backed by generations over decades, and it is for the state to uphold and reinforce this entitlement. They emphasised that this is a legitimate and legal right, affirmed by various agreements, orders, and circulars issued by the Ministry of Health, including Order No. 39 of 1957, published No. 312 of 1969, No. 57 of 1970, and No. 93 of 2006. The federation firmly objects to any neglect or compromise of this right.
Moreover, the General Health Federation has urged the supervisory authority to cease such practices immediately and to guarantee the right to free healthcare is extended to all people in the sector and their families. It also called upon all its members and union structures within the sector to be ready to engage in various forms of protest if the Ministry of Health persists in its policy of forsaking the right to free healthcare.
